Amid adversity, where girls in Afghanistan lost their rights, Malika Amiri, a tenacious young woman, emerged as a beacon of hope and empowerment. Currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in computer science at Albukhary International University, Malika began a transformative journey with a mission that reaches beyond borders.

Born and raised in Afghanistan, Malika witnessed the unfortunate turn of events in August 2021, when girls were prohibited from attending schools and universities. Driven to make a difference, she envisioned the Empower Her project—a groundbreaking initiative focused on providing education and opportunities to the girls in her homeland.

Undeterred by the challenges, Malika brought together a diverse team of like-minded individuals, each contributing their unique perspective to the project. The Empower Her team consists of Dema Yuden and Thinley Yeshey Choden from Bhutan, Tamanna Kasim from Nigeria, and Yousif Esmat from Sudan—all fellow computer science students at Albukhary International University.

Empower Her uses Google Classroom and Google Meet for their teaching and learning programmes. Recognising that English proficiency is pivotal for accessing international scholarships and educational opportunities, the project conducts free online English classes using these platforms.

Beyond language instruction, the Empower Her team has extended their support by welcoming questions related to university and school applications. Being aware of the challenges these Afghan girls encounter, the team goes above and beyond by offering guidance and support to help them navigate the complex process of applying to educational institutions abroad.

This holistic approach strengthens the project's commitment to language acquisition and empowering these girls to pursue higher education and wider opportunities.
